Guduchi isan important part of the Ayurvedic category of Rasayanas, orrejuvenative tonics. Human studies conducted on Guduchisimmune-boosting ability show it to be linked to enhancing the functionof protective cells called macrophages. The plant is used to improvethe immune system and the bodys resistance to infections. The stem isused in dyspepsia, fevers, and urinary diseases. Its principleconstituents are tinosporine, tinosporide, tinosporaside, cordifolide,cordifol, heptacosanol, clerodane furano diterpene, diterpenoidfuranolactone tinosporidine, columbin and §-sitosterol. It is used as animmunomodulator in immunosuppression of obstructive jaundice, hepaticfibrosis, peritonitis and sepsis. The plant has been found effective inpreventing fibrous changes and promotes regeneration of the liveragainst CCl4 induced hepato toxicity.
